Lab Services Overview

Chemical EOR Formulation Development

Thorough laboratory evaluation of EOR formulations is essential to ensure selected blends are economically viable and robust. We obtain practical EOR formulations using a rigorous laboratory program which sets the standard in development of EOR solutions worldwide.

Polymer Evaluation

Injecting polymer has shown major benefit to field scale waterfloods worldwide, but requires thorough laboratory investigation before being injected. We evaluate all commercial synthetic polymers and biopolymers for EOR applicability in all rock types and are trusted as independent evaluators for several polymer manufacturers.

Coreflooding

UEORS has an unparalleled success rate in EOR corefloods industry-wide, even in extremely harsh reservoir conditions. We have the ability to evaluate all types of EOR floods in reservoir rocks and can include true live-oil corefloods. We provide transparent criteria for success and a clear roadmap for decision making after corefloods.

Surfactant Formulation Optimization

Use of appropriate chemicals, concentrations, and injection volumes improves the economic performance of chemical EOR floods. UEORS has access to virtually every relevant commercial chemical and can improve or redesign otherwise marginal surfactant formulations. We will optimize formulations to ensure they are robust, as simple as possible, and economically attractive.

Independent Evaluation of Chemicals

Injecting polymer has shown major benefits to field scale waterfloods worldwide, but requires chemical companies provide samples of commercial or research products for evaluation. We evaluate all chemicals involved in chemical EOR applications, including surfactants, polymers, co-solvents, scale inhibitors, emulsion breakers, sacrificial agents, and wettability alteration agents. Customer confidentiality is a top priority for UEORS.

Emulsion Characterization and Demulsification

Identification of demulsification processes is necessary before a chemical EOR pilot to reduce down time, operating costs, and profit loss. We characterize potential emulsions over a range of conditions and assess emulsion stability. We develop an emulsion breaking strategy for normal and reverse emulsions that can be used as a guide if emulsions are produced during the pilot.

Spontaneous Imbibition

Wettability is one of the important reservoir characteristics that determine the waterflood oil recovery. Sometimes a different brine composition or chemical additives may have a significant impact on oil recovery. We offer a screening evaluation of water-based improved recovery method through spontaneous imbibition test using reservoir materials/conditions. Microscopic displacement performance of surfactant EOR formulations can also be compared with a similar approach.

Foam Experiments

Foam as mobility and conformance improvement is used with gas, surfactant or alkali/surfactant solutions. Coreflood experiments are conducted to evaluate the foam strength and stability of the reservoir oil and salinity of the formation brine. We can assess the performance of the hybrid low tension gas flooding method—for example, alkali/surfactant/nitrogen gas vs. ASP.

Eco-Friendly Chemistry

We recognize the need to implement environmentally responsible EOR projects.
